liberal media

Having someone on tee-vee that basically lays out the facts followed by someone on tee-vee that basically lies about everything is not “balanced coverage”.

Television journalism today is really pretty terrible.

Fiscal Conservatism!

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

Chart from the 2008 American National Election Study.

Turns out when the rubber hits the road conservatives don’t really want to cut federal spending on much of anything.

They just want to cut taxes and pass the bill on to their children and grandchildren.

I guess being a Republican means never having to apologize for total and complete hypocrisy.

Politics #fb

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

For all the frustration I have had over the years with politicians in this country and the system in which they operate I still believed that, for all its flaws, we had the best form of government in the world.

It’s been made obvious to me this week that I am wrong.

Our government is filled with children.

Those on the right, with their temper tantrums, lies and distortions, treating every policy debate as a simple game to be won or lost.

Those on the left, gutless cowards who obviously worry more about being liked and re-elected as opposed to just getting the job done and standing upon a record of accomplishment.

And now today the U.S. Supreme Court stating that multi-billion dollar corporations have all the power they need in order to buy elections.

Maybe I will be proved wrong, but I am pretty pessimistic right now.

I think the political system in the United States is broken beyond repair and I don’t see how things will ever change.

I guess I should not be surprised. The Roman Empire once ruled the known world. Look how that turned out.

Fiscal conservatives!

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

Not Republicans.

Steve Benen:

It obviously helps that we have a Democratic president working with a Democratic Congress, but note that when there was a Republican president basically telling a Republican Congress what to do, GOP policymakers didn’t cut spending as much as Obama did last year.

It’s also worth keeping in mind that Republican lawmakers — the ones who claim to be more aggressive when it comes to cutting spending — also fought bitterly last year against every proposed reduction offered by the White House, most notably when it came to health care.

What’s more, when the president reached out to Republicans over the summer, urging them to put together a list of spending cuts they’d like to see, the GOP caucus came up with $23 billion in proposed cuts over five years — far less than the White House plan to reduce spending over the same period.

Honestly I don’t understand why people vote for Republicans unless they earn a bajillion dollars a year. And even then Republican administrations allow for economic policies that create the conditions that piss away the investments of bajillionairs as well as us common pleebs.

It’s a total mystery to me. What are Republicans good at?

the truth about the stimulus

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

Maybe you should read this.

I realize that Republicans and their most strident allies are entirely convinced that the stimulus didn’t work. I’ve also seen the polls that suggest Americans in general are skeptical about its efficacy.

But among economists, we seem awfully close to complete unanimity that the Democrats’ recovery effort rescued the economy from collapse, created jobs, and generated economic growth that wouldn’t have existed otherwise. Among those who know what they’re talking about, this isn’t even worth debating anymore — it’s simply an obvious truth.

If it was up to the Republicans we would all be living in caves and eating bark with the exception of the top one tenth of one percent income bracket.

happy new year

There is a billboard with this image on the drive back from Duluth on I35.

I’ll bet the tea baggers, who have spent the last 11 months crapping their pants with misplaced rage, paid for this billboard. The fact that we are cleaning up after the disaster of the previous administration seems totally lost on these people.

Miss you yet?

Worst.
President.
EVER.
