Seriously, my favorite course so far this season.
Positive: The start – On asphalt road. Plenty wide and long enough to get up to speed and sort out the field before hitting the first barrier.
Positive: The road – FINALLY! The course had a great asphalt road section, as all true cyclocross courses should.
Positive: The transition from paved road to trail – Fast right hand turn to the first barrier that you could take at speed if you were confident of your cornering skills.
Negative: The first barrier – You could take this barrier at speed since you were coming off the pavement, but the section after the barrier was very rough and was immediately followed by a descent. You had to take care and get into your pedals before you started the descent or it could be disaster. I would have preferred to see this barrier on a different section of the course.
Positive: The second barrier – The approach to this barrier was at full speed and you could get over it quickly and cleanly if you knew what you were doing. It might have been good to take the first barrier and add it to this section to make for a double barrier section.
Positive: 180 degree turn out of the woods – While it totally took away the momentum from the fast woods section, it proved to be a leg breaker to get back up to speed while climbing the hill following the turn. It really helped make fitness a more crucial element of the race.
Negative: Rough back section – No real way to avoid it, but the rough terrain made for some slow going along this section of the course. Up and down the hill and around the corner to the run up it was near impossible to get into a rhythm. It made the course more challenging but it would have been nice to be able to get up to speed and recover a bit before the run up.
Positive: The run up – steep, long, hard. Perfect.
Positive: The second wooded section technical areas – A great transition following the more fast and open section of the course. It forced you to slow down and take this part of the course deliberately and with caution to prevent blowing off the course.
Negative: Pit – A positive of the first Hudson race and the Baker Orchard race is that the pit was two way, so it could be accessed from two different parts of the course. The pit at Jackson Meadow required an entire lap of the course if you had a problem just past the pit. Kind of unavoidable with the course as it was, but it’s always nice to see a two way pit. I am sure Jared would agree.
All in all a fantastic course. I really enjoyed it!
Chris pointed me to this Rolling Stone article…read it.
The next time you hear someone rail against the Social Security “ponzi scheme” you can rest safe in the knowledge that the entire financial system in the USA is one great big scam used by the wealthy to extract huge sums of money from the middle class.
It’s all a ponzi scheme…
FINALLY! Triple barriers at Green Acres…and I missed it…
Fingers crossed for triple barriers at Red Barn this Saturday!
We had a pretty good party in Chimayo New Mexico. Thanks to our friends and family who were there to celebrate with us.
