Do health insurance companies provide any real benefit to their customers?

    Only if their customers are also shareholders.

    Kinda sorta…
    BCBS has started a recent value add where somebody will call and offer to help out in tracking things, like appointments, procedures etc. (seems to be triggered by major procedures.) To help keep organized.

    But overall? Outside of theoretically helping to cover the cost of major procedures, a little, but not much.

    A very valid question, especially for healthy people. Then again, all you suckers who pay your $1 per USAC race helped pay for my broken collarbone. Thanks!

    Lance was covered by Nike or Oakley’s insurance. I’m glad the insurance companies pay for millionaires who need medical procedures.

    Do Americans have any incentive or accountability to try to be healthy and avoid/undo preventable disease?

    @Alex: You mean other than living longer?

    @Steven: it’s a $3 USAC fee and $1 for the MCF. :)

    @Alex: UnitedHealth has a smoker surcharge. Fat surcharge would be good, but it’s proving to be too hard/controversial to implement. BMI, for example, is not a good measure.
