Way to go Paul! Keep fighting the good fight no one else seems interested in fighting. Thanks for the video Chris.

Thanks for posting this. I have the book on my shelf and am going to pick it up for a re-read again tonight.

I can only outline what I find fault with here, but I have a few rebuttable points.

    1) He was wrong about David Millar.
Apparently David Millar flagellates himself in public on a daily basis as penance, because I hear a lot of talk but I don’t see much action in his advocacy against doping. Maybe it’s done with a lower profile, I don’t care, let’s get back to the (clean) racing.

    2) There is no “Lance exception.”
Cipo got the same deal — a waiver rather than being kept out of racing over a matter of a couple weeks. They both left in good standing, for whatever that is worth, knowing how many high-profile, post-retirement confessions there have been.

    3) A two year suspension is sufficient.
If you’re lucky, you can stretch out a pro career to a dozen years. You get one shot at redemption, and even if the penalty for a second offense was no stiffer than the first, it may as well be a death sentence.

ah… so if you serve your ban but don’t beg forgiveness you’re evil.

But no double standard for anybody (i.e. beg for mercy and we’ll love you.) One issue I now have is the anti-doping crowd is turning into a bunch of zealots. I’m happy that the sport cares this much, that people do get 2 year suspensions, etc. I don’t see any other high lever (e.g. American football, soccer, baseball, etc.) owning up to these issues.

Does it suck when somebody dopes? Yes, but at least you know and the cyclist gets punished. Not like certain baseball players that lie under oath and at best get a slap on the wrist.

But the zealots won’t be satisfied until it all conforms to their idea of reality.
