LGR Velo CX wrap up
Saturday, November 8th, 2008That race was really hard for me. Lot’s of sharp turns that required rapid deceleration and acceleration. Great job to the LGR crew for packing so much course into such a small area, I was really impressed.
The only hitch for me took place at the barrier section on the west side of the velodrome. Apparently there was some kind of stump hidden in the grass a couple of meters before the barrier itself. About three laps into the race I had unclipped from my right pedal and was prepping to unclip from the left when I was suddenly pitched to the ground with my bike launched about six feet up in the air. I was up on my feet before it landed, ran over and picked it up and the got back on course. No problem.
Beyond that it was just a matter of grinding out the laps. With three to go all the stop and start biz started to get to me as well as the barriers. There were 3 sections of barriers, two singles and one triple section. I finally cracked and the last three laps were just about hanging on. Lucky for me there was no one too close that would catch me before the finish.
I was lapped by Adam and Doug, Dewey and Ezra and that’s it. Things seem to be getting better out there for me and I am having a good time. Following the State Champs next week I am going to decide if I want to take cross more seriously for 2009.
