Sunday, October 26th, 2008Jimmer tells the story as first responder.
I’m glad I did not come upon someone in that condition. Eyes open but glazed over? Creepy!
I remember the crash clearly. I had made another run through the downhill turns and hit the straightway at speed. As I approached the right turn before the barriers I felt the bike start to slide out a bit so I corrected with counter steering. Almost as soon as I corrected the tires hooked up and pitched the bike the opposite direction. I came off the bike in a high side crash, landing on my back and whip lashing my head onto the ground. That’s all I remember until I realized that I was surrounded by people who were all looking at me. A rather bizarre experience.
I have since read Jimmer’s account. Dave Cory told me that when he asked the name of my dog I gave him the name of my previous dog who has been gone for 5 years now. Rebecca asked me what day it was and I responded "today". Funny guy eh?
My wife has to wake me up every four hours tonight to make sure I have not lapsed into a vegetative state, but otherwise I should be fine. Massive headache though. Sounds like I may enjoy it for a few days.
Thanks again to all who expressed their concern and took the time to help me out this afternoon. This sport is great because of those who participate in it.
Meow took this photo while things were still going well for me.

I can not state enough how much I enjoyed this race. The course was challenging but fun. The conditions were brutal but really made the race even better. I am happy to be OK but I am really disappointed that I could not finish today.
Oh well, there is always next week. Just don’t tell the ER doctor. He told me I needed to lay off for a couple weeks. Yea, right.
