injury
Wednesday, October 8th, 2008I don’t know if it’s a carry over from the race last Sunday, or something new tonight, but I have something possibly serious going on with my left quadricep.
Two laps into our cyclocross practice race tonight the quad started to tighten up. I figured I would ride through it but after a few more laps, and a couple of hard efforts, it started to feel worse. I wanted to get in 45 minutes at race pace but decided to shut down after 30 minutes and see what was going on.
A few minutes after I stopped it was clear something serious was wrong. The quad was very sore and tight. By the time I got home I was no longer able to walk comfortably.
Advil, ice, compression and lots of hope that it feels better tomorrow. I am going to try and get a massage in the next day or so to see if I can get it loosened up.
I am worried that racing this weekend might not be possible. However, I don’t want to bag the rest of my cross season just to get one race in.
It’s a bit depressing to have put this much work in and now have to deal with this but I suppose it’s inevitable at 40 years old. Honestly, I should have spend a bit more time warming up and stretching before I started riding hard.
Fingers crossed.
If I can’t race this weekend I’ll go out to Wirth and kick some young kid in the knee to share the pain.
