it’s not her fault

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

It’s just dawned on me, she doesn’t know.

I can’t hold Sarah Palin responsible for this. It would be hard to say "no" when someone asks you to be his Vice President.

Really, this whole thing should be hung around John McCain’s neck. It is the very height of irresponsibility for him to put Palin in this situation. McCain’s poor judgment should be a serious issue for anyone considering voting for him next month. Palin is the clear evidence of this.

If McCain really believed in "Country First" he would replace her on the ticket. But if he really believed he would have never chosen her in the first place.

dismount

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

It hit me like a ton of bricks.

I have been dismounting from my cyclocross bike all wrong this whole entire time.

Not totally all wrong like Super Rookie, just a bit all wrong.

That whole thing about grabbing the top tube with your right hand, putting your body weight on your right hand, un-weighting your left foot and clipping out? I have not been doing that. I have been full on body weight on the left foot while trying to clip out.

When you are full on body weight on the left foot, and your left foot does not disengage from the pedal fast enough, you stay clipped in and stack it into the barrier. You eat a shit sandwich with the squirts for topping and a side of turd. Just as I did last Sunday.

You are supposed to put your body weight on your right hand, then unclip from your left pedal with enough time to be totally free of the pedals well before you need to get feet on turf.

I figured all this out by accident, and not the accident last Sunday.

After the crash I was fully prepared to continue keeping body weight on the left foot. But yesterday, when I was out cruising around a bit, I happened to weight the right hand and unclip from my left pedal.

Eureka.

The clouds parted. The sun shown. Harps began to play. Jesus Christ and/or Daniel Pontoni came down from the havens and bitch slapped me for being so god damn stupid.

One of the things I enjoy about these fringe aspects of cycling is all the details you have to figure out to be even competitive. Track racing is all about that. How to ride the track. Short, fast races. Gearing, tactics, etc.

Cyclocross is like that too. Steep learning curve.

I hope I have a chance to practice this more before my first cross race in 11 years this Sunday.

letting Sarah be Sarah

CBS:

Couric: You made a funny comment, you’ve said you have been listening to Joe Biden’s speeches since you were in second grade.

Palin: It’s been since like ‘72, yah.

Couric: You have a 72-year-old running mate, is that kind of a risky thing to say, insinuating that Joe Biden’s been around awhile?

Palin: Oh no, it’s nothing negative at all. He’s got a lot of experience and just stating the fact there, that we’ve been hearing his speeches for all these years. So he’s got a tremendous amount of experience and, you know, I’m the new energy, the new face, the new ideas and he’s got the experience based on many many years in the Senate and voters are gonna have a choice there of what it is that they want in these next four years.

Uhhh, Palin does know that it’s John McCain who is running for President right? The guy that has been in the Senate since 1986 and was first elected to Congress in 1982?

If voters are going to choose new energy, a new face and new ideas versus many years in the Senate which ticket do you think they are going to choose?

Keep that lipsticked pitbull off the leash John McCain, bring on the landslide.

VeloNews:

France’s national anti-doping agency (AFLD) has offered to test allegedly suspect samples taken from Lance Armstrong during the 1999 Tour de France.

I’m sure Lance will be all over that request…with his lawyers.

Why bother to state where you get your news when you read everything?

She does have a degree in journalism after all.
