Yes, certainly there are a lot of other words, and certainly he's saying things, but when a writer leads his book with a junior high playground insult, that says all I need to know about his thinking.

he (and some of his supporters I gather) actually thinks that writing “Rush Limbaugh is a big fat idiot” somehow qualifies him as a serious thinker on issues of the day.

At least he's able to call shit out for what it is. But again, though this doesn't qualify Franken for office he isn't suggesting that it does, and neither do I.

here's a hint: If you open the cover of the book, there are more words inside. Thousands of them!

Happy to help.

Smithers, I'll thank you NOT to make me watch any more political ads than I've got to. :^)

Sorry, just because somebody agrees with someone in part on a few issues does not make them a stooge, nor do we count something as "proven" when it makes a 529's (or whatever's) online ad.

Which is, more or less, one of the chief problems I've got with Franken. OK, I disagree with his political views, too, but the thing that really gets me is that he (and some of his supporters I gather) actually thinks that writing "Rush Limbaugh is a big fat idiot" somehow qualifies him as a serious thinker on issues of the day.

And yes, plenty of stooges like Franken on "my" side of the aisle, too, but that doesn't change the fact that the pillager of Gloria Wise is, in fact, a stooge.

Coleman actually initially didn't do anything. It was only after a couple days did he "return" some money by donating it to charity. I wonder if he was the first to do so?

As for Franken, true, being a comedian doesn't qualify one for senate any more than being a POW qualifies one for the presidency. But, then again, Franken isn't running for Senate on his experience as a comedian. He's running because he feels he can do a better job than Coleman.

As for the general subject of qualifications, let's not forget the ilk this country put into presidential office (TWICE!) of late. Not exactly the type most competent folks would deem qualified.

I believe that wisdom, intelligence and a desire to serve are really the only appropriate qualifications for public office. Whether it's a comedian that possesses these qualities or a sanitation worker, I don't care. I know full well that this sentiment is a long stretch (if not a pipe dream) in most cases but that doesn't mean I ought to or will stop believing in it.

Coleman was one of the few Republicans who had the balls to "return" Ted Stevens' dirty money. He's also stepped across the aisle on some other issues. Not that I'd vote for him, I'm just saying he's going to be formidable, and I think the FDL should be fielding a better candidate.

So it’s a wee bit of a “stretch”...

No, not so wee bit at all. I'll stick with stooge on that one. Maybe "total stooge".

If you want political inspiration, you probably want to skip the state that elected Jesse Ventura.....that noted, Coleman's not that far from the DFL on energy policy, and he's one Senator who is cluing into the massive problems at the U.N., which even other GOP legislators are slow to figure out. So it's a wee bit of a "stretch" to suggest that Coleman doesn't think for himself here, calling him a "stooge."

Nor does being a comedian qualify one to be a senator. I wish the DFL could field a stronger candidate to go up against Coleman. Losing a Senate seat to a Republican in today's political climate is going to be pathetic.
