VeloNews:
Italian Damiano Cunego battled his way through the Tour de France 18th stage Thursday to finish the race despite sustaining potentially serious injuries in a crash.
“It’s a miracle I finished this stage,” said the Lampre rider, who came over the finish line with blood dripping from a wound under his chin and injuries to his chest and thorax.

General classification after stage 17
1 Carlos Sastre Candil (Spa) Team CSC - Saxo Bank 74.39.03
2 Frank Schleck (Lux) Team CSC - Saxo Bank 1.24
3 Bernhard Kohl (Aut) Gerolsteiner 1.33
4 Cadel Evans (Aus) Silence - Lotto 1.34
5 Denis Menchov (Rus) Rabobank 2.39
6 Christian Vande Velde (USA) Team Garmin-Chipotle p/b H30 4.41
7 Alejandro Valverde Belmonte (Spa) Caisse d’Epargne 5.35
Evans has some work to do in Saturday’s 53km time trial. However, looking at the results from the 29.5km stage 4 time trial, Evans may be in decent shape.
Evans beat Sastre by 1:16
Evans beat Frank Schleck by 1:47
Evans beat Kohl by 1:20
Evans beat Menchov by 0:07
Evans beat Vande Velde by 0:10
Evans beat Valverde by 1:07
Saturday’s time trial is longer and harder than the stage 4 event so the time gaps could be even bigger. Maybe Sastre will be inspired by the jersey, but I don’t think he’s the man this year.
I predict that we’ll see Evans back in yellow just in time for Paris.
