W ‘08!

Don’t give me any of this “Bush is not a conservative” bullshit, especially those of you who voted for him twice already. You know who you are.

Be honest, between Obama and Bush you would vote for Bush again. Between McCain and Bush you would still vote for Bush.

I mean, who cares that McCain voted with Bush 100% of the time in 2008 and agrees with every single policy of the Bush Administration? Why hold your nose and vote for someone you never liked in the first place?

Go there, sign up, keep “God’s President” in office another four years.

    Nice try Smithers.

I’d vote for McCain. Bush has not been a fiscal conservative.

Bush has not been a fiscal conservative.

And McCain has voted for everything Bush wanted nearly 100% of the time. One of the few exceptions was when he talked about eliminating the Bush tax cuts, until the pandering season began anyway. Someone wise once quipped “The Politics of Change My Mind“?

If you were disappointed by Bush you will be disappointed by McCain, I do guarantee it.

Smithers, you are correct about that, at least 95% correct as far as I can tell - close enough.

But the choice now comes down to Obama vs. McCain, and I’d still take McCain’s flavor of Conservatism over Obama’s presumed Fiscal Free For All any day. Hell, I’d take Bill Clinton’s flavor over Obama’s for that matter.

I can live with all the liberal stances on social issues and such, but it is imperative that we find a way to halt our current tax and spend federal policies or you and I are going to have to move in together.

you and I are going to have to move in together.

That’s fine. You have diaper changing experience.

    What tax and spend policies?

Under the GOP congress just spent… I didn’t see and real increase in tax. In fact I vaugly recall something about tax cuts in 2002, 2004, etc.

    Hence the increase in debt.

Nope sorry… I’m more willing to go with the Dem this time, in hopes that he assembles a decdent team, rather then go with somebody who will most likely put the same players back in.

And to be really cruel… do we want another 70+ year old in the white house at this time?
Seriously he is entering the age where stokes, dementia, and other geriatric issues show up. In other words, like the second Reagan term, who will really be running the show.

No I’d rather go with the young guy on the hope that he’ll learn from his mistakes, as he currently appears to be doing.

    :^)

But I pulled the lever against Gore and then against Kerry, not for Bush.

If Bush isn’t a true conservative, it’s only because he takes the worst parts of the left.

E.g. overspending, authoritarianism, meddling in personal affairs, increasing the size of the government, tariffs (steel), market manipulation (emergency oil reserve), and snorting coke.

oh yeah, almost forgot wiretapping and domestic spying.

Except much of what Plan B alleges to be the worst of the left appear to have been hallmarks of the right, at least since the Nixon administration: overspending, authoritarianism, meddling in personal affairs, market manipulation, wiretapping and domestic spying.

Deficits have increased more dramatically under so-called conservatives presidents than so-called liberal ones.

It seems to me, aside from some misguided attempts at gun control, the left has been better at promoting individual rights whereas the right has promoted corporate rights. Afterall, it seems to be the right that is more interested in controlling what’s going on in people’s bedrooms, homes and personal lives than the left.

Um, Nixon’s price controls are straight FDR, Bruce. Remember “New Economic Plan” that mired the country in the 1970s? GOP conservatism really got going only later with Reagan.

You’re correct that deficits rose faster under Reagan, Bush, and Bush than under Carter or Clinton. Not coincidentally, Reagan, Bush, and Bush were correcting for the neglect of the military under Carter and Clinton.

I guess that means that Obama will have to correct for the deterioration of the military under GW Bush.

Bike Bubba, I was not referring to price controls with my allegation of market manipulation, but rather corporate welfare/subsidies/tax breaks. GOP conservativism seems to love corporate welfare while despising social welfare.

I wouldn’t call Clinton left. More like centrist. His administration seemed to love corporate welfare, too. He wasn’t much of a liberal in my opinion.

If only the GOP actually ended the “War on the Poor” that LBJ started, Bruce. Yes, “my” side regrettably does tend to give tax breaks to corporations–and you’d probably agree that it’s regrettable when “your” side joins in. (how would it get done in Minnesota without DFL complicity?)
