I was just discussing this with a co-worker yesterday.

Thursday Night Lights post race wrap up post

Friday, June 13th, 2008

With my current fitness level I went up to Blaine expecting the worst, and I was happily surprised.

Turn out was a bit light with the big pro race in town. Lot’s lots of the track regulars are helping with race organization and therefore not able to attend the weekly track spank session.

I have been hearing rumors of forced downgrades for those in the Cat 1/2 category if you are not able to cut the mustard. So my goal was to test my fitness and determine if I should consider downgrading to Cat 3 if I was not going to be up to the job.

First race of the night was a 15 lap scratch race. It was fast but not too fast for me to hang on. I even put in an attack with 7 laps to go to test things out. I was caught pretty quickly and finished at the back of the field but I was happy to be in there.

Next up was the unknown miss and out. While I do not have the fitness for the super and double top secret miss and out technique, I did have enough strategy to make it to the final 3. (BTW, I have decided that the super and double top secret miss and out strategy is not a strategy but a technique. See me for a more detailed explanation if you care). I stayed to the back and to the outside just keeping ahead of one rider to stay in the race. The best part was when Franz (or Hans!? I can’t remember which is which) got boxed down on the black line behind Hans (or Franz!? I don’t know…let’s just say that Franz was behind Hans.) Franz would beat me in a sprint probably 100 out of 100 times but I knew that if I could keep him boxed down there he would have no where to go and I could pip him on the line. Franz knew it too and yelled at Hans to move up and give him room. Hans didn’t move and I snuck just in front to give him the knockout. The race came down to Hans, the man in black and me. I was looking back to keep track of the man in black but he and Hans took off and I couldn’t respond so it was 3rd place for me.

The final race was a 60 lap points race. I got no points, and lost a lap to the leaders but so did most of the rest. I did not go down a lap on the field and I still had some fuel in the tank at the end so I was happy.

All in all I think I did ok and I don’t think I am in danger of getting “the talk” from Bob Williams.

Hopefully it will stay day so I can get back up there next week.
