Social Nutworks
Tuesday, June 10th, 2008My Space, Facebook, Bebo, Orkut, LinkedIn…only Jared can keep track of them all.
It seems like every time I go online I have a new invitation from someone that just joined a new online social network.
This morning I had a meeting with some representatives of a soon to be launched cyclist network site and I had to ask a question.
Is there really room for all these sites? Admittedly, a cyclist specific site may be a select enough group to actually work. But do consumers really want to be checking all these different sites to see what is going on with their so called "friends"?
It seems like this might be a new dot.com bubble. A few sites reach critical mass and gain a bunch of notoriety and everyone thinks it’s the next big thing and try and get on board. Then the collapse comes and the good sites are gobbled up by one or two big players and the rest are never heard from again.
Where am I going with this?
I don’t know. I don’t think I have time for another network site though.
