“Where hacks come to spew nonsense” - B2B

The International Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) comes down hard. VeloNews:
Characterizing his defenses as “unfounded,” the International Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on Monday issued a strongly worded dismissal of Floyd Landis’s appeal of his suspension for doping at the 2006 Tour de France.
In a 3-0 decision released on Monday, CAS confirmed the initial decision issued by a panel of the American Arbitration Association (AAA) on 20 September 2007.
The panel rejected virtually all of the defenses Landis and his legal team raised in both the public hearing at Pepperdine in May, 2007, and in the appeals hearing in New York, in March. Indeed, from the tone of the decision, it appears that at least some members of the panel were offended by some of the legal strategies employed during the appeals process.
Well, so much for that. It’s clear that Landis went for broke in his defense but the result only proves that when you pursue a scorched earth policy sometimes you can get burned too.
If you think the verdict unfair then go ahead and donate all your coin to the Floyd Fairness Fund. Hummm…maybe today’s press will get someone off their ass to renew the domain.
Look for Landis behind the wheel as the Rock Racing director sportif starting in February 2009. In the mean time you can review my history of snark courtesy of the Trust But Verify Site. All credit to these guys, they will go down as the archive for this whole sordid affair, if anyone actually wants to remember it that is.
“This election is about trust — trust in people’s word,” McCain, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, told several hundred donors at a $2 million GOP fundraiser in Louisville, Kentucky, yesterday. “And unfortunately, apparently on several items, Senator Obama’s word cannot be trusted.”
Good one.
Meanwhile John McCain continues to spend over the spending limits he promised to abide by through the primary season in exchange for public financing.
I want to return to this subject though because this is not hyperbole or some throw away line. He’s really doing it. McCain opting into public financing, accepted the spending limits and then profited from that opt-in by securing a campaign saving loan. And then he used some clever, but not clever enough lawyering, to opt back out. And the person charged with saying what flies and what doesn’t — the Republican head of the FEC — said he’s not allowed to do that. He can’t opt out unilaterally unless the FEC says he can.
Senator Obama’s word cannot be trusted? Senator McCain, Barack Obama is not currently breaking any campaign finance laws with his campaign. Barack Obama did not push through Congress a campaign finance law with his name on it.
Senator McCain, you are breaking your own law. Don’t preach to me about trust. You don’t have the credibility.
Is it more important to use filtered water in my espresso machine, or change the water everyday? Is it really that important to change the water everyday? If it’s not important to change the water everyday why shouldn’t I just use filtered water? Is it more important for me to get the right answer or the answer I want?

Track report for June 26 2008:
Everyone enjoyed another fine display by the local Little League Dad. He likes to yell at his daughters and make all the other riders feel uncomfortable. I didn’t feel uncomfortable, I want to hire this guy to be my coach! The next time I hear him yelling at his kids on the infield I am going to immediately yell the exact same things at Skibby. It will be inspirational.
The Taint spoiled everyone’s good time by wearing a totally illegal helmet in the team pursuit. WTF dude? Who do you think you are, Patrick Swayze? You may think you are above the law…blah blah blah. Phanna took a picture of the offending lid:
Thanks to the totally illegal helmet The Taints team totally waxed the Speedfix team. Speedfix was caught after 30 meters and The Taint and his crew lapped them 10 times in 4 kilometers, all thanks to his totally illegal helmet. What a gyp. If only he had not been wearing that helmet it would have been a much closer race. Poor Speedfix…now they know how Al Gore feels.
There was lots of crashing going on. I was able to drum up and offer some sympathy, but no cash. Maybe next time.
Bob was not at all interested in my litany of complaints. Bruce was sorta interested.
I was creamed corn in the chariot race but I decided that I was going to use the Point Race for big training in zone twelve. No pulling out and no getting lapped more than 4 times. Noble goals indeed. I only got lapped once so I was tres stokered.
I have been trying to upload all my GPS data from last night so you can check out the course but Motion Based is failing me. Too bad, it was a really interesting course and it would be fun to open it up in GooGoo Earf.
Next time for then, ok? OK!
Ciao.
I am going to live blog my lunch today on Twitter.
Tune in at 12 noon Central Time for the updates.
It’s going to be awesome.
Some people have difficulty overcoming disappointment in their lives.
Woman Reporter: “It’s a big day for American cycling, to have two Americans beat an Olympic champ. You must feel some pride.”
Jerome: “Come on man, walk it off.”
B. Muzzin: “No, no, I’m alright. OK. I’m not riding for America lady. I tried riding for America. I spent four years of my life working shitty jobs so I could train and make the Olympic team and ride for my… Look at me! And then some fatasses in Washington started having opinions. The Olympic Committee started having opinions. You, you bitch, I know you! You started writing your opinions. So we boycott the Olympics. I was in the best shape of my life in the summer of 1980 and I got beat by opinions.”
Woman Reporter: “Is that why you’re boycotting the victory ceremony?”
Muzzin: “What victory? There’s two stages left.”
Woman Reporter: “Still, the fact remains…”
Muzzin: “You wouldn’t know a fact if it banged you all night long!”
These people need our compassion and understanding.
In times of stress it’s important to have someone you can talk to.
Do you have someone that can help you deal with the disappointments that come along? Do you have your own Jerome?
I do.
Except he’s not named Jerome.
And it’s a woman.
And it’s my wife.
