Train toilet

May 13th, 2008 | Posted by Smithers at 7:01 am in Mobile Post |

When you “flush” the toilet on a European train the bottom opens up and eveything lands on the tracks. It’s not a high fashion job to work on the railroad. It’s bad form to take a dump in the train station.

Older Amtrak cars are the same, as were classic rail coaches. I’m even pretty sure a lot of the “Superliner” coaches do this–they are only about 30 years old, pretty young for passenger rail. (I’m pretty sure high speed rail does not)

I used to go running along train tracks as a kid. Thankfully, they didn’t have passenger rail there. :^)

I agree pretty much the same here in the USA just hardly any passenger rail infrastructure.

I spent a summer working along a rail line in MD – it’s a pretty gross/dirty/dusty/dangerous environment period.
