How is it pronounced? I’ve heard SH-ram and I like S-ram like S-ram in your computer.

For my part, I think it stands for
    SRAM’s
    Really
    Awful
    Moniker.

Basides that, “Ray” is actually founder Stan Day’s middle name.

A better name would be STARSZ (Sachs-Truvativ-Avid-RockShox-SRAM-Zipp). It represents the company as a constellation of brands, and adds another anti-Anglophone consonant pair, but I’m not sure how the STARZ movie network or a certain local distributor with at least as many house brands (including three lines of bicycles starting with an “s” sound) would feel about the encroachment on their turf.
