What should Smithers do?

April 9th, 2008 | Posted by Smithers at 9:07 am in Cycling |

I am not going to be anywhere near on form for the first Thursday night track event of the year scheduled for May 22.

Between an incredibly busy and stressful job, sick kids, my own various health issues this winter I have not had the time or energy to devote to off-season training.

So…what’s your advice? Should I just start track racing at the end of May knowing full well that I am going to get slaughtered or should I take some time and get some form before heading out to the velodrome?

What should Smithers do?

What would you do?

What would Jesus do? He would probably eat a falafel and then perform a miracle of fitness upon hiself. I don’t seem to have that ability…I can eat falafels though…

Now I’m hungry.

I thought the whole point of track racing was that you don’t need to train much? Just go.

Bring a falafel on May 22. We’ll flip a coin: one of us gets to eat the falafel, the other has to race.

Do it… train if you can but go, race, and try to have fun knowing it’s going to suck.

Pretty much my riding “season” the year after I had open heart surgery. Couldn’t ride during the season, didn’t train in winter and sucked all spring. But got better and had some fun at least.

Hope the sick kids get better. That’s never good for the stress levels.

Use the time you can’t train by thinking up tactics

for a dude who’s profile picture is him riding at the track, I’m surprised you’re even asking this question.

sounds to me like you’re being a puss.
    go ride, puss.

I am a puss, but I will probably still go ride.

BTW, I am thinking of changing my profile picture to show me sitting on the couch watching TV and eating Cheez-Its.

take 2 weeks off then quit.

    j/k

    eat less, ride more.

and ride hard if you can’t ride a lot.

    That’s an easy one.

Just use the time-tested “incredibly busy and stressful job, sick kids, your own various health issues this winter and something like you have not had the time or energy to devote to off-season training” as an excuse.
