Velo News:

A German rider with a penchant for lightweight rides has put together a 3195-gram (7.04 pound) road bike that he says is sturdy enough for him to ride up to 1000 kilometers a week.

The bike cost $50,000 USD and is reported to “ride like shit.”

But at least it’s a nice changeup from the generic pro bike adver^H^H^H^H^H article. How many “pro rider loves his current sponsor’s flagship bike but wants an even lighter frame and stiffer bottom bracket so we gave it to him, then decided to sell it to the public but not announce it until we’ve cleared our inventory of the old models” stories do you need to read?

It looks a lot like my Crosscheck which weighs 8 pounds.

Ray: I didn’t know Surly made scale models.

But seriously, the “dry” weight of my 58cm Cross-Check is ~35 lbs with some heavy wheels, a Kryptonite lock, etc., but I will give up my gearhub and go to this guy’s 6-speed system if he has nine gram downtube shifters.

Maybe his weight obsession should transfer over to his gut, if he’s a solid buck fifty on a frame that small.
