RADIUS #3 Wrap Up

Wednesday, September 12th, 2007

Everyone who took parts seemed to have a great time.

We ran the Cat 4–5’s as an individual event, maybe we can run a team event for the Cat 4–5’s next year if there is the demand for it?

It was fun to throw in some events that are not normally used during the Thursday night series. In the Cat 1–2–3 the 10 teams were all only separated by 1.213 seconds in the Flying 200 meter time trial. In the 1 kilometer team pursuit the difference between 1st and last (Ped and I) was 9.93 seconds, just a few second shorter than a whole lap around the track. It felt like Ped and I were going fast at the time, apparently we were going very very slow.

The designated sprinter events were interesting but I think I need to tweak those a bit more before we run them again. The Tempo race seemed to be too short for the X-riders (the non-sprinters) to make much of a difference in the race. In the Points race the X-riders could have made a bigger difference if the format had not been a scheduled “sprint every 10 laps” traditional style points race. The “unknown” aspect of the point laps mitigated the benefit of the X-riders. I thought that the rule limiting the benefit of lapping the field helped keep the race together, although I think I could accomplish the same thing by knocking down the available points for lapping the field to 3 and letting riders acquire as many 3 point laps as they wanted.

The most exciting event of the night was the 360 Sprint. Bob enjoyed it so much that he has decided to use that format for the Chariot Races in 2008.

RADIUS will return for 2008. Send on any comments you have regarding the events and any ideas you have for improvement for next year.

Thanks to all who came out and raced last Sunday!

Sorry, part 2

Timmer:

I’ve recently noticed that you never really have anything good to say on other people’s sites.

This in response to an admittedly lame attempt at humor on Jimmer’s site.

Never anything good to say on other people’s sites?

Are there thousands of people moping around with hurt feelings because I made some dumb ass comment on their blog?

If it’s the case I apologize.

Jimmer, if you thought I was serious I apologize.

If anyone takes anything that I write with more than 1 grain of salt then I really apologize.

I have to go get a haircut now.

Sorry

My posting is going to be even more lame than usual due to the fact that I am so busy getting ready for INTERBIKE.

I apologize in advance.

If you are going to be in Las Vegas let me know so we can make plans for you to take me out to dinner.

Post 9/11

Were the 9/11 hijackers just lucky?

Lucky that immigration control was poor? Lucky that airport security was lax? Lucky that the U.S. really did not take al Qaeda seriously?

Is Islamic extremism and terrorism really the defining battle of our generation? Or has the United States over reacted to what may have essentially been a lucky strike?
