Verdict this month. Who thinks he’s innocent? Who thinks he’ll get off? (yes this is a different question)

sub prime

Tuesday, September 4th, 2007

Kevin Drum:

Credit card companies lobby Congress to pass a bank-friendly bankruptcy bill. Consumers in financial trouble respond by avoiding extra card debt and instead tapping the subprime lending market. When that turns sour, credit card companies turn around and offer yet more card debt to desperate subprime borrowers, secure in the knowledge that their shiny new bill protects them from default.

And what happens when people can’t pay their bills? They bail out of town completely leaving their house empty and bills due. Sometimes they even leave the dog in the yard when they leave in the middle of the night.

Imagine you have a 30 year loan at a reasonable rate in a decent neighborhood. In recent years the neighborhood fills up with people who took advantage of the sub-prime market. This year people start bailing out of their homes and, as credit tightens up, these homes can not be resold. Your nice neighborhood start to suffer from blight. Crime and vandalism become a problem. You decide to move but find that your house has devalued due to the neighborhood conditions and credit is so bad that no one can get a loan for your home anyway.

It’s a problem for a lot of people. Banks and credit card companies are only going to make this problem a lot worse.

Fair Warning

Tuesday, September 4th, 2007

Just to let you know, as we approach and reach 2008 I will be writing more about politics.

I’m sure that there are a number of you that find this topics very boring and for that I apologize in advance.

I guess I am curious as to why you may find it so boring? I believe that the number one issue for the 2008 election is going to be the war in Iraq. Are we so apathetic in this country that we no longer care that over 3700 soldiers have died and we have spent a sum approaching the cost of the Marshall Plan and achieved…what?

Are you satisfied with the direction that this country is taking? Do you think more knowledge and involvement in the issues is going to make a difference. Or will you be happier and more satisfied in throwing your hands up in the air and proclaiming that your opinion, and thereby no ones opinion, makes any difference?

Critical Mass

Tuesday, September 4th, 2007

I hate these critical mass rides. In my opinion all they accomplish is getting a bunch of motorists pissed off thereby provoking the potential for violence.

Critical mass riders are attempting to convey an important message but I think the manner that they are using to attempt to convey that message is not at all effective and does their cause more harm than good.

It also creates a great opportunity for those with intentions that are less than noble to come along for the “party”.

Were the cops over the line? Let the investigation play itself out and we shall see. In the mean time, if you don’t want trouble then don’t cause trouble. Some of us are just trying to ride our bike on the road and we have to put up with enough bullshit on a daily basis as it is.
