Twin Cities’ Four Best Bars (AKA Where You Will Likely Find Me When I Am Not On My Bike)

August 30th, 2007 | Posted by jim r at 2:14 pm in Mobile Post |

1)  Triple Rock Social Club

$2.50 pints weekdays from 4-7

2) Dubliner Pub

Apparently there is a happy hour but nobody ever knows what it is or what it counts for.  JFK would like a Harp.

3)  Pizza Luce–Downtown

Half-price pints and -$2 on appetizers for happy hour until 7 every night I think.

4)  Grumpy’s NE

Not sure if they have a happy hour, but it is a cool bar and they sponsor a bike team that has a bunch of cool people on it.

Feel free to provide your own suggestions and debate me on this one…I might be forgetting something or someone.

“What, no Groveland Tap or the Nook?”

They’re not in the top four.

“Don’t you have a girl friend?”

Hence the title of this post.

    My top 4:

    1. Grumpy’s NE (they sponsor my team. and great tap selection).
    2. Dusty’s. Not only home of the world famous Dago, it is also where I asked Sarah to marry me!
    3. Costello’s. St. Paul Cathedral Hill. Great place in a nice neighborhood.
    4. Mannings Bar. This SE Como institution has huge goblets of premium and is the hang out of all things Gopher Hockey.

SR good call on Mannings. It’s been around forever and has the worlds best grilled cheese (at least in the spectrum of bar-food).

The Tap is also good, and has some mean fried pickles. It’s hard to compete with that unless you’re at the fair, and they try to hard with all the cream cheese and what-not anyway. Plus, I have a cabinet full of glasses that I’m supposed to return to them, so you gotta give some props.

The Muddy Pig should be on here. Great beer selection, consistently good food, and it’s in St. Paul. Booyah!

“I will inform Mike Runyon never to serve you again. How dare you?”

It’s almost impossible to get served in that joint anyhow.
