The only training rides that I am going to be able to fit in now days are my riders with Toddler Smithers hauling him around in the trailer.

On the ride this evening Toddler Smithers identified a little dear that ran along the side of the road with us for a half block as a ga-gogee (doggie) and a whoo-whoooo (train).

Despite the fact that I am currently sitting in 3rd place in the Track Rider of the Year standings, the first place rider Brian Crosby now off traveling the country testing his fitness against other riders on other tracks, I do not have much hope that I am going to be able to capture this valuable award by the end of the year. Der Kruser is currently 3 points ahead of me in the standings and I know of 3 nights of racing that I am going to miss for the rest of the year while Der Kruser will probably not miss one single night of racing. I suspect that he is going to make a run for TROY and my fitness is questionable for the balance of the season. I’ll try to be competitive for the rest of the year but we’ll see how things go. I am not optimistic.

I am pretty sure that I am not going to race cross this fall.

In every other way however life is grand! Our annual family vacation to the east coast is coming up week after next and I am trying to line up a guest blogger for the week. I’ll keep you updated.

Tour de France stage 2 wrap up

Monday, July 9th, 2007

Quick•Step finally gets a sprint right, but they get the order wrong. Steegmans wins the stage that team superstar Boonen should have won. There was no reason for Steegmans to keep sprinting unless the team has lost some confidence in Boonen’s ability to close the deal. Both Steegmans and Boonen were going away in the sprint and were not under threat from anyone. Steegmans should have sat up and let Boonen win the stage. Now Steegmans is going to be a big star and team director Patrick Lefevere is going to have to pay him the big bucks to keep him for 2008.

Boonen is trying to play it off that he gifted Steegmans the win but after watching the sprint I don’t buy it.

In other news…

Who would have guessed that Hincapie would be involved in the pile up today?

Everyone.

Whoops!

Fred Thompson, abortion rights lobbyist.

That’s going to make it harder to get the GOP nomination, if he ever actually declares an intent to run.
