I was feeling OK until I got my ass dropped. Then I rode home all alone. Here is what I saw during my ride home:
– A very famous person’s house – Jim Cullen time trialing – Some dude almost crash on the bike path trying to get out of my way
For some reason I just ran out of gas about half way through the ride. It’s unexplainable.
B2B had on Zipp 999 deep dish wheels that sounded really cool when he came through in the rotation. Birchwood Katie and Birchwood Paula were riding strong in the group. There were some Little Guy Racers that came out for the ride. My three sons were not in attendance because they were off doing something way cooler than the Urthel ride…or so I was told.
It can be yours with accessories (short antenna, cases, extra stylus, desktop cradle, extra headset, 1gb card) for the great price of $250. Compatible with GSM (AT&T, Cingular, T-Mobile), not compatible with CDMA (Sprint, Verizon, Virgin).
I’ll put it up on eBay in a week if I still have it.
In 1998 I went up to Duluth for some clownish stage race.
During the 3rd stage criterium I was at the front driving along trying to make something really awesome happen. It was early in the race and I was feeling good so I was pushing hard. I approached turn 1 and rolled over a man hole cover that was perfectly placed in the apex of the turn. My front wheel washed out and down I went, sliding across the road and into the curb on the opposite side of the street. At least two other riders who were right behind me at the time also went down.
Was it my fault? Yea, I suppose. I was taking a risk by keeping the throttle open in a turn and I should have known better than to roll over that metal cover. Scotterob could not believe that didn’t try to avoid it.
Was I responsible for those other guys that crashed? You bet I was.
Did I feel bad? Sure, I don’t like to see dudes crash and certainly don’t like to be the cause of it.
But, in the end, you know what? That’s bike racing. Blasting along with 20 or so other dudes is inherently dangerous and anything can happen. A moment of inattention, something or someone comes into the road, someone has a mechanical and *WHAM*, time for everyone to eat shit.
However, as far as I am concerned, if it is not a reckless and collosally stupid move that causes the crash then that’s life as far as I am concerned. I know that crashing really sucks, I absolutely know. But if someone feels the need to light up someone for what was an accident then maybe they should reconsider taking part in this sport.
Bike racing is very hard and can be dangerous. It’s an unfortunate reality of the sport. While you are never looking for someone to knock you down if you are not ready to deal with the after affects of someone crashing you out of a race then you should not pin on a number.
