The day was characterised by a long solo breakaway by Mickaël Buffaz (Cofidis), who nearly cracked under the strain of his efforts and stopped in tears at the halfway point in the stage, but soldiered on until 11 kilometres to go before being caught.
Crying? About being in a breakaway? Dude, there are a lot worse things to cry about than being off the front. Like this:
