Jerry Falwell eulogized on House floor today

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007

Congressional conservatives yesterday held an hour-long memorial for the late Rev. Jerry Falwell on the floor of the House of Representatives, extolling the “incredible and remarkable” religious right leader.

After 9/11 Falwell said this:

“The abortionists have got to bear some burden for this because God will not be mocked. And when we destroy 40 million little innocent babies, we make God mad. I really believe that the Pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People For the American Way, all of them who have tried to secularize America. I point the finger in their face and say, ‘You helped this happen.’”

Ron Paul is barbecued by conservatives for blaming the attacks of 9/11 on Americans, even though he never said such thing. Falwell actually blamed the attacks of 9/11 on Americans and an hour of the peoples time is wasted in Congress.

Honestly, I really don’t understand conservatives.

Should I buy this issue of GQ?

There is an article about being a father…might be interesting.

Also an article about the over use of mobile devices…could be good.

And an article about Senator Jim Webb.

I can’t see anything else that would be of interest to anyone…

I was planning on using the “puma” knick name all week to make everyone sick of it…but I am already sick of it.

So I am just going to stop using it.

Straps on TIME pedals

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007

This is kind of “inside baseball” but a couple of people have asked me about it and I can’t keep a secret.

I am using toe straps on my TIME pedals for standing start events. Why? Not because of any release issue with the pedals. It is only to prevent any vertical movement between the sole of the shoe and the upper of the shoe.

In standing start events such as match sprint, keirin, 1K, 4K, etc., the start is critical. You need to be able to get as much power into getting the crank arms turning as quickly as possible. Any energy lost between the interface of your foot, your shoe and your pedals could mean the difference between the gold medal and being first loser.

I experimented with using toe straps and found that it makes a huge difference in power transfer so I played around a bit over the winter and figured out the optimal set up with my pedals.

It’s pretty simple. I just use a heavy duty zip tie and loop it around the toe strap and the retention spring of the pedal.

The zip tie holds the toe strap in the perfect place and does not affect the mechanics of the pedal at all.

Presto!

You can see more photos of this set up here.
