Still feeling the effects of being sick last week, I was not sure how I was going to fare on the tough guy ride this week. Turns out I was fine.
Saw Flooder at the start of the ride. He was on his way over to race bikes at Opus. It was good to catch up a bit as I don’t think I had seen him in over a year. He told me that I should collect money for the diabetes ride this year but then just bail out on the ride because no one cares if I ride anyway.
There were about 12 of us that finally rolled out. It was a good group. Once the rotations began it took me a bit to get in the zone but once I was there it was A1.
There is really something special about cooking along the open roads in a rotation where everyone is riding smoothly. You are right on the cusp of cracking but, after taking your turn at the front, you are able to recover just enough to take your next turn. The brain shuts off but everyone is riding on instinct so no one does anything dumb. Just a steady and predictable roll from the back of the group to the front and back again. There is nothing like it.
It’s a great workout too. Akin to motor-pacing. It makes you fit and it makes you fast and you feel damn good afterwards.
I already predicted he would get the Democratic nomination. My wife’s folks are pretty conservative and they told me that they would find him an acceptable President. He’s my choice, I think he can win.
