Baby Smithers channels bird

Saturday, April 7th, 2007

Baby Smithers walked into a plate glass window this evening.

We were at the Galleria and he was walking around the atrium and spied the Schmitt Music store. He saw the pianos and recognized them as we have a piano here at home that he likes to play, so he walked towards them not noticing the glass separating him from the objects of his desire.

Blamo.

He walked face first into the glass before I had a chance to stop him. Just like a bird that flies into a window he bounced back and collapsed spread eagle on the floor. He laid there for a second and then stood up and started to cry, more in shock than in pain I think. He was fine but was really PO’d that he could not touch the pianos as the store was closed.

We went back into the Barnes and Noble kids section and played with the Brio trains and he seemed to get over it pretty fast. He does have a knot on his forehead as a souvenir of his experience.

Poor little bird.

US Open wrap up

Saturday, April 7th, 2007

As stated earlier, a tough guy won the race today. Tuft put in a classic ride, reminiscent of Johan Museeuw, to win today. I don’t think North American continentals are used to racing in these kinds of conditions. I can’t say that Tuft made it look easy but he was clearly at another level today. I guess he has ridden his bike from Vancouver to Alaska with a trailer so he is probably used to hard riding conditions. It sure showed today.

I agree with the comments, it was great to see NBC devote almost three hours to this event and it was a refreshing break not hearing the usual Phil and Paul show. I am not a big fan of the Traut but I know John Eustice and his experience and enthusiasm for the sport come through. If you liked what you saw today send NBC your compliments:  feedback@nbcsports.com

Race Update

Saturday, April 7th, 2007

It looks like a neutron bomb went off in Richmond before the race came into town. The streets are devoid of spectators. Too bad.

Between the snow and the wind and the Libby Hill cobbleled climb and the overall length of the race it’s going to be a tough guy who wins today.

American cycling race on NBC right now!

Hummm…can cycling on TV not exist without Al Trautwig?

I bet these guys did not expect to be racing in snow today.

Springtime Bike Awesomeness

Saturday, April 7th, 2007

Hey! I just stepped outside and I think it’s almost 15 whole degrees above zero!

Who wants to go on a cool training ride with me? We can ride four hours and freeze off all our motivation to ride for the rest of the year. It will be super good.

Meet me on the bike path and we’ll head into the wind. Once our bottles are frozen we can stop and take turns beating each other over the head with them.

Isn’t spring wonderful?
