Team Jerseys

How do you feel about the pink no longer being the Birchwood/GIS color?

Officially, I don’t care.

Unofficially, I am crushed and it breaks my heart every time I see a Birchwood rider sporting blue instead of the OEM pink.

That pink jersey was remarkable in its recognizability. There were few sights better to see than a mass of pink clad riders drilling it at the front. Blue jerseys? No offense to Birchwoodies, but it does not have nearly the same impact. That pink jersey made a statement that is, to date, unmatched on the local cycling scene. Maybe LGR will bring this spirit back to the Twin Cities.

I also regretted to see the Loon State jersey change in the mid-1990’s. The original jersey had a blue torso and white top with the image of a loon floating on a lake with the sun behind it. It was a really distinctive design and unlike anything else seen to date around town. From some reason a movement started in Loon State to “lose the chicken.” So they replaced the classic Loon State jersey design with some good awful purple mishmash disaster. If anyone has an image of this jersey design send it to me and I will post it up. It was horrible. Soon after, maybe the next year, Loon State went back to the classic colors of blue and yellow, colors that they continue to employ today.

So many beautiful jersey designs, lost to the ages.

Sniff…
