Prosecutors Purge
March 14th, 2007 |Replacing U.S. attorneys when a new administration comes into power (1989 Bush, 1993 Clinton, 2001 Bush) is not unusual.
What is unusual is the firing of U.S. attorneys during the course of an administration. Keep in mind that these attorneys were nominated by the Bush administration, so it’s not like they are purging partisans from a previous administration.
What is troubling is the fact that these attorneys were pressured, via the White House, to indict Democrats just before the 2006 election. It is also troubling that attorneys were fired during the course of the Jack Abramoff and Duke Cunningham investigations.
Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely.
