Did you know that Judge Judy makes more per year than all the U.S. Supreme Court justices combined?

Biz trip guest blogger

Tuesday, January 23rd, 2007

I am going to be out of town from tomorrow through the end of the month. Too bad for you all. But, as luck would have it, I have a fantastic new guest blogger for you.

Scotterob has been gracious enough to accept my invitation to guest blog for me while I am on the road. I will check in with the odd photo and some wurds here and there, but the site will be mostly his for the week that I am gone. I hear that he has some great things planned so it should be some good readings.

If you should need to get in touch with me the best way will be by e-mail. Starting on the 24th I will be able to receive IM’s at this e-mail address while I am gone. So feel free to drop me a line.

Look for Scotterob’s first post to hit tomorrow. Enjoy!

Insurance

Tuesday, January 23rd, 2007

Newsweek:

During the nine years she’s lived in her historic sea captain’s house on Cape Cod, Mass., Paula Aschettino never filed a claim against her homeowner’s insurance policy. But last year she received a letter from her insurer, Hingham Mutual Group, canceling coverage on her nine-room, $600,000 oceanfront home.

Should people have the right to home owners insurance no matter where in the United States they live? I don’t think so.

On the other hand, Allstate insurance will not write policies for home owners in 14 coastal Texas counties, New York City or all of Long Island.

I think there are some economic and social benefits to convince people to move out of areas of the country that are in chronic danger of disaster. Flood plains, ocean front property along the gulf coast, heavily wooded and brush areas that are in constant risk of fire danger are some examples.

But, unless we are willing to cede occupancy of major parts of the United States like the entire Atlantic and gulf coasts and the area around potentially active volcanoes like Mount Rainier, people need to be able to have access to affordable home owners insurance.
