Your best race – 2006

Sunday, November 12th, 2006

So now that the racing season is all done, let’s hear the story of your best race for 2006.

Did you stay in the group on a hill where you were sure you would be dropped?

Did you execute your race strategy to perfection?

Did you finally win that first race?

Did you whup Silver Cookie’s monkey ass in the Cat 3 Match Sprints? (yes)

What ever it was that made it your best race for 2006, type it up and e-mail it to me at:

smithersmpls@gmail.com

If I get enough submissions I will post the best ones and let you guys vote on the very best one. The winner of your vote will win a big bottle of Team Urthel beer.

Stories due by November 20th 2006.

Apparently the thing to do at a 20th class reunion is to wear a really low cut dress to show off the big rack.

Cyclocross

Saturday, November 11th, 2006

J-Rod and I were going back and forth on an earlier thread about cross.

Everytime I go to a cross race I wish that I was out there racing. Those who can do it well make it look so easy. But the reality is that it is not easy, it is very difficult and this makes it all the more impressive how good these guys are.

I have given cross a try and I suck at it. I have an inherent lack of grace and clumsiness that has resulted in numerous injuries and equipment damage. I suppose I could really work at it and maybe (?) get slightly better but what’s the point? I’ll leave it to those that can do it well.

Besides racing on the track is much easier.

Good luck to those at the MN State Cyclocross Championships today.

Me and Mrs. Smithers are out in Pittsford NY for her 20th high school reunion.

Pittsford is a suburb of Rochester NY. The Erie Canal goes through Pittsford connecting Lake Erie at Buffalo to the Hudson River 362 miles away in Albany. It’s like a river except it’s man made.

Pittsford is smart enough to have their high school reunion in the fall as opposed to those dumb ass clowns in Coon Rapids that have their reunions in the middle of the summer.

X-Mas Time!

Friday, November 10th, 2006

I guess the day after Halloween is the start of the X-Mas season.

It seemed like there used to be a gap between Thanksgiving and X-Mas but now it seems like Thanksgiving is just part of X-Mas. Like a pre X-Mas.

This long build up for X-Mas just makes the winter seem longer.

Maybe X-Mas should be delayed until February. Then most of the winter can be happy fun holiday X-Mas time!

I’ve been resisting this kind of thing, but Michael Novak makes it so easy:

Just think how crushed the Left is going to be when they lose seats in the onrushing congressional elections this November. They have been so certain they would win big.

They have been blowing hot air.

They call themselves the “reality-based community,” when in truth they are still living on scraps of the old illusions, from which they have never wakened.

The Left is going to lose — big — because they have nothing noble, nothing beautiful, nothing real, nothing true, with which to lead. They are the merchants of illusion. And a significant majority of Americans, although not all, see through them.

In a democratic election, however, it only takes a small majority to win. And the upcoming election of 2006 is not likely to be all that close.

The Democrats piqued too soon.

Just watch.

Still watching Michael, are you?

Back on the Tacx trainer.

I did this workout on Monday:

From Training

I am planning on using this thing to train by watts over the off season so when spring comes I can be totally burned out on riding.
