I’m sorry…
Monday, October 30th, 2006but some of these people are in the situation that they are in because of decisions they have made that have nothing to do with money.
They have self-worth issues, or religious beliefs or whatever that is causing them to spend more money than they have. Unless they make some major changes in their lives I can’t be really optimistic that things are going to get better for these people.
For example:
• If you go out and spend a bunch of money because you feel bad about yourself, you don’t have money problems. You have a problem with depression. You need to find out what is that is making you depressed so you can fix that because no matter how much money you make, if you can’t deal with your depression, you are going to continue to spend yourself into bankruptcy.
• If you want to have 7 kids and are only making $65K per year, keeping your kids in private school may not be worth bankrupting your family and losing your home.
• If you are earning $35K per year, have $64K in debt and are spending $300 per month on clothes and $400 on food, your problem is that you are living in fantasy land. You think you deserve a certain kind of lifestyle that you can’t afford. Time to get over it and move back to reality.
It’s a typical solution to work on the result of the problem rather than focus on the problem itself.
For the record, I am not an exception to this.
