I got the 60,000 mile maintenance check on my car today. Ouch, that’s a pricey one.
Speaking of cars, what is the big deal with using the turn signal when we change lanes? I don’t see how it is that difficult to do and it helps out other drivers who would like to know what people are going to do when we are all flying down the highway together at 70+ mph. These are large metal machines that routinely kill people on the road. Yet every day I see people who don’t think it’s necessary to give us a little heads up when they are going to come charging over into our lane. It really doesn’t take much either. Car manufacturers don’t put them there for fun, by the way. Are you considered a spank if you use your blinker? I don’t get it.
Public Service Announcement: Use Your Turn Signal or Blinker or whatever-you-want-to-call-it-depending-on-where-yo u’re-from.

4 deaths in Mobile yesterday due to severe weather and tornadoes. I was not one of them.
More rain today. On the gulf coast, when it rains it pours. Rain drops are so big that they will bruise. I hope it clears up later for a phat ride.

A friend is celebrating Ramadan. This is a new friend to me since last year’s Ramadan. I feel fortunate to have him as a friend, because I can ask him all sorts of stupid questions about Islam and this spiritual time. It has been very educational to say the least. He is a natural teacher and speaker, and very patient with me and all my queries. I didn’t realize that not only do many Muslims not eat during daylight hours during Ramadan, but they don’t drink either. Nothing. They don’t even drink water all day. This is amazing to me. Just talking about it makes me want to, correction -need to, go and get a glass of water. Talk about devotion, this is serious business. I can’t wait until it’s over, and I’m not even sacrificing anything except lunches out with my friend! I would think that they would eat like crazy at night, but my friend says:
“We don’t eat a lot in the evening because after being so hungry for so long, the body can’t take much. But we wake up very early in the morning (about 5 a.m.) and have a heavy breakfast.” Also, he says that they can’t have sex during the daytime during Ramadan and that they “also do a lot of prayers at night and contribute a lot to charity during this month.” That’s right, Ramadan is a month long…….
I’m going to go and get a glass of water now, or juice, or milk, or coke, or wine or whatever………..

I just finished watching another couple episodes of My Lovely Sam-Soon. I am totally addicted to this Korean drama. It aired in Korea last summer and now you can own it too. Just make sure you buy the DVDs that will play on your American DVD player. This leads us into all this Asian/American technology stuff that I don’t really understand, but just make sure you do if you are going to buy the 16 episodes on DVD. Yes, 16 episodes….that’s 16 hours of great, funny Korean drama that are about to end for me. I will be so depressed when I finish this show! Kim Sam-Soon has been called “Korea’s answer to Bridget Jones”, so get ready for that. I also loved Bridget Jones, of course, so I am a sucker for this stuff. Plus, there are lots of great shots of Korea and Kimchi, etc. Not that I liked Kimchi all that much….or at all.

I just discovered a word that describes Ben Richter on the veldrome:
Fingerspitzengefühl
Next time you see him you can ask him what it means.
