Bob Stephenson and his Midwest Heroes group have been running their “Everything is Hunky-Dory in Iraq” commercials for a few weeks now. Stephenson’s group is being bankrolled by the Pro-Bush propaganda Progress for America Voter Fund (PFA). PFA is so committed to every harebrained scheme the President puts forward that they even put on a full court press for Harriet Miers’ nomination to the Supreme Court.
But the PFA and Stephenson have their work cut out for them. Nearly 60% of those polled disapprove of the way President Bush is handling the war in Iraq. Nebraska Republican Senator Chuck Hagel has said this in regards to the war in Iraq:
“We must be very careful what we’re doing here, because in my opinion, three years in Iraq, things haven’t gone the way the administration said and others said it was going to go. In fact, I think we’re in more trouble today than we’ve ever been in Iraq.”
The mid-term elections are 8 months away, but it is going to take more than a PR campaign on the part of the President’s sycophants in order to change public opinion on the war in Iraq. It is going to take a campaign of misrepresentation and distortion and you can be sure that the Rove machine is already cranked up and ready to get their ads on the air very soon.

From
Anti-Strib:
Big Hat Tip to Sean for this tidbit of info.
Check out this report from WCCO-TV. It seems our old buddy Smithers is getting free bike bags for pushing products on his blog.
Doesn’t sound very respectable to me, but I guess he’s the one that has to live with being a bike bag whore.
FYI, The Anti-Strib recieves no money from anyone for anything. You can rest assured that the crack pot opinions expressed here are our own. We are not paid mouthpieces like some other “bloggers” for corporate America.
Yea, big “hat tip” to you Sean for that catch. You guys really nailed me on this one.
Working in the cycling industry means that I end up with a lot of free or reduced price stuff. Regardless of whether I paid full price, reduced price, or no price for the stuff, if I like it I will write about it. Sometimes, if I don’t like something, I will write about that too.
So Banjo Brothers gave me a saddle bag to use with no obligation to do anything other than use it if I liked it. I used it, I liked it, so I wrote about it. Banjo Brothers appreciated my comments and gave me some other products to use with the same understanding as before. According to Tracy at Anti-Strib, that makes me an unrespectable whore.
He’s the same guy that wrote the
following on his site:
Rioting over a cartoon is F’in unacceptable and we need to the the Ragheads to go shit in their turban if they expect us to appologize.
So now you know where this guy is coming from.
I engaged in a debate series with this site a few weeks back but gave it up after the questions for debate began to border on the absurd. Oh yea, they called me racist too.
I don’t know if this post by Tracy is an attempt to goad me back into commenting on their site or if it’s just unbalanced rantings, I guess I don’t really care. Regardless, I have no regrets about my decision to drop the debate series and discontinue commenting on his site.

As predicted last month, Tyler Hamilton’s doping appeal has been rejected by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). He is suspended through September 22 2006 with an additional two years of suspension from racing in the Pro Tour (although, with the Grand Tours currently opting out of the Pro Tour we could see Hamilton racing in the Tour de France in 2007).
The CAS is also considering stripping Hamilton of his 2004 Athens Olympic Time Trial gold medal.
