MPR:
…if you run the CD in your personal computer, by the end of it, the Minnesota GOP will not only know what you think on particular issues, but also who you are.
Got the CD yet?

Washington Post’s
Richard Cohen:
Would that anyone could say the same about many of the deal’s critics. Whatever their concerns may be, whatever their fears, they would not have had them, expressed them or seen them in print had the middle name of the United Arab Emirates been something else.
Gee, I wonder why it would be that people might be concerned, not only about the middle name, but the entire name of the country United Arab Emirates? Maybe because the company that is going to operate the ports is OWNED by the government of the United Arab Emirates and maybe because…
Al Qaeda warned the government of the United Arab Emirates more than three years ago that it “infiltrated” key government agencies, according to a disturbing document released by the U.S. military. – New York Post
Cohen wants to attribute some kind of great nobility to President Bush, portraying him as taking a stand against the xenophobic and isolationist racists within the United States. If Cohen would take the time to pull his head out of his ass before writing his usual lame excuse of a column he might see that the President’s motivation is money and political payback and this deal might not be the best move for U.S. security interests.
For the record, I am against any company that is owned and operated by a foreign government, controlling our sea ports, or airports or rail hubs or any area of national security concern. The British company that sold out to the UAE was not owned by the British government. Is it too much to ask that Cohen do just a few minutes of home work before sitting down to bang out his ham-fisted homage to President Worthless?

OK, so I am going to be posting audio and video clips on this site in order to provide some multimedia content. Text and photos are so 2004…
Up first, the finale of the 1995 Men’s Professional World Championships Road Race.
Taking place in Duitama Columbia, this race was unique in that it took place at an altitude over 7500 feet and on roads that were not even paved 12 months before the start of the event. It was impossible for the European teams to get their normal vehicles over from Europe to South American so all the teams were using miscellaneous Isuzu trucks and sedans to support their riders.
A typical Andes mountain storm brewed up during the middle of the race and this, combined with the effects of racing for hours at an altitude that they were not accustomed to, whittled the pack down to only a dozen or so riders on the last lap of the race. Riding up the final climb, Spanish rider Abraham Olano went clear of the pack followed by his countryman Miguel Indurain, Italian Marco Pantani and Swiss rider Mauro Gianetti. Indurain, fresh off his 5th consecutive Tour de France victory and his victory in the World Championship Time Trial, played the perfect team mate to Olano, sitting on the wheels of Pantani and Gianetti preventing them from reeling in Olano. Olano was able to stay off the front and solo in to victory but not without a few moments of excitement just before he crossed the line. Indurain was able to beat Pantani and Gianetti in the sprint for 2nd place capping off a perfect race for the Spanish team.
Enjoy.

TiVo gave me “Air Force One,” which I saw but mostly forgot – what’s to remember, really? But it’s fun…It opens with a joint American / Russian spec-ops kidnapping of a head of state, who is one of those super-nationalist Russians we were all twitchy about in the late 90s; he is sent to a very bad and smelly prison. Cut to President Solo, giving a speech that puts forth a new American policy towards terrorists and terror-enabling states:
Peace isn’t merely the absence of conflict, but the presence of justice. Never again will I allow our political self-interest to deter us from doing what we know to be morally right. Atrocity and terror are not political weapons. And to those who would use them, your day is over. We will never negotiate. We will no longer tolerate and we will no longer be afraid. It’s your turn to be afraid.
He is also quite physically fit AND he can fly a plane. This was the sort of person Hollywood wanted for President in 1997. Then they get one, and they completely wigged out. Ah well.
Hey, if Harrison Ford was elected we’d have a pot smoking idiot for President.
All we got was the idiot.
Being President is not about tossing out a few great sound bites and acting like a tough guy. It’s about sound policy, an effective decision making process and the ability to execute a plan effectively. History will judge this President and his administration very harshly, with due cause.
John at Powerline, of course, will be the exception…
