Flying back home from Philadelphia through Chicago and Health Net team super sprinter Gord Fraser just got on the plane. He must be coming into town for the Nature Valley Grand Prix that takes place in and around the Twin Cities starting Thursday.
If you are going to be in town this weekend you should get downtown Minneapolis and enjoy the men’s and women’s professional criteriums. It’s a fast race and lots of fun to watch.

Health Net won all three Wachovia Week races. Lancaster, Trenton, Philadelphia. Boring.
Health Net is bad for American professional cycling. They hire most of the top talent in the US and end up sucking all the air out of most of the races they take part in. While it is an incredible accomplishment to defeat the Health Net team, they are so dominant that it is becoming a fairly rare occurance. The overwhelming success of this team is making US pro racing less competitive and less interesting for the fans. If the fans lose interest then the sponsors will lose interest and there goes the sport.
In Formula One auto racing the well funded and more successful teams help the lower ranked teams. This is because they have figured out that, by helping the smaller budget teams, the racing is more competitive and much more interesting to watch. This makes the fans happy and generates much more excitment in the sport. This excitment is what brings in the sponsors which brings in even more fans.
Health Net needs to figure out that by having all the top riders on their team and winning all the big races they are steadily destroying the sport.
